Bringing ideas to life

  • All projects begin with an in-person meeting to review the site, discuss the brief and start generating ideas. A written project brief is then prepared to outline the client's aspirations, with any foreseeable permissions or planning requirements highlighted.

  • A Concept Design is produced from the approved Project Brief, with scaled plans illustrating the proposed layout, vistas, grading changes and more. Plans show built structures, structural planting and proposed materials, while smaller-scale planting ideas are conveyed through mood boards and plant palettes. The Concept Design remains flexible, often offering multiple options and encouraging client input.

  • The Developed Design stage incorporates feedback on the Concept Design and finalises the aesthetics of hard and soft landscape proposals, enabling the submission of any necessary planning applications and attaining relevant permissions. The Developed Design is presented with fully illustrated plans, perspectives and refined plant and material palettes.

  • Once the Developed Design is finalised and necessary permissions are in place, any construction phasing will be agreed. Tender drawings, including plans, specifications and schedules, are prepared with specialist input where needed and issued to selected Contractors for costing. Our involvement during tendering ensures the design is interpreted correctly, materials and methods meet expectations and potential cost savings are identified.

  • After the Detail Design and tender process, the client may choose to have the designer oversee construction or manage it independently. For the best outcome, it is recommended that we manage construction by attending the site regularly, overseeing quality, supporting the client and managing contractors, with regular updates provided throughout. Upon completion of each phase, an on-site meeting is held with the client to review the works, confirm completion and compile a snagging list if necessary.

  • Following Construction, our ongoing involvement can support the early establishment of the garden. Clients remain responsible for post-completion care, though advisory consultations beyond construction and early establishment are available as required. A Handover Package, including a printed Management Plan and Maintenance Schedule, can be prepared upon request.
